Dry suit survey - Beaver

WET n DRY Dry suit survey

Distributor: Beaver Sports 01484 512354.
First Impressions: A heavyweight, rough, tough, macho divers suit. Ideal for any Scottish scallop-diver! Chunky. Not pretty. No frills. This suit looks like it will go on and on - apart from the inappropriately light zip.
Material and Construction: 6mm compressed neoprene. A heavy construction, well-stitched with reinforcing patches at all seam junctions. Towelling-lined inside.
Boots: Neoprene-lined boots.
Zip: Mediumweight, cross-shoulder, well fitted, glued and stitched.
Seals: Bellows-style neck seal in a heavier-weight latex than most. Conical wrist seals in heavyweight latex.
Wrist Seal Contact Length: 3.5cm.
Knee Pads: Like small rubber car mats.
Valves: Rotating Apeks inflation valve with low-profile auto dump.
Notable Other Features: Detachable braces with easy quick-release. SMB pocket on front of thigh with two holes for draining and lanyard.
Ease of Dressing: Ten out of ten. Very easy without any undersuit needed.
In The Water: I stayed warm with nothing but my T-shirt and shorts on under it, even though the water was only 4C. However, I felt a slight ingress of water at one wrist. I was able to dump air without ever having to think about it, because the dump valve is beautifully positioned.
Approx. Weight: 5.3kg.
Made-to-Measure: Yes.
Tester: Gerry Gooch.
